Principal´s Welcome
Welcome to Eton Elementary School
Eton Elementary is an adventure and an exciting time for students, parents, and teachers. Visiting the classrooms is a journey through a child’s wonder of experiences that lead to understanding and curiosity. In upper elementary, the balance between the acquisition of knowledge and skills helps students to construct their own meaning as they stretch and grow into citizens of the world.
The rhythm of children engaged in living and learning hums…busily painting a mural in the patio; reading, discussing, and re-writing a piece of literature into music; celebrating the social and emotional success of fellow students in the auditorium; organizing a living history museum for younger students; using math skills to develop a company, build a bridge, solve a computer problem…and just being happy about who and where they are at this point in their lives.
Eton Elementary joins hands and hearts in our community to guide students toward becoming life-long learners, along with understanding and accepting the differences that enrich us all. Our students grow in the confidence of their own abilities, skills, and talents; ultimately becoming capable of thinking about and creating solutions in the real world, based on ethical values and distinctive life skills, as tolerance, respect, solidarity, and responsibility. We are proud of the active participation of all grade levels in on-going social service developed and promoted by our Elementary students.
Our teachers are consistently improving their skills to guide and facilitate learning and human development through programs that enrich their understanding of themselves and their important role in the lives of their students. The majority of Elementary teachers are trained in Conscious Discipline, the Project Approach, and Teaching for Understanding. These significant teaching strategies support concept inquiry, visible thinking skills, and personal development appropriate for each individual learner. Learning with and from others is an important hallmark of most activities, and individual responsibility is a unique and valued contribution.
Parents are a most important part of our community---and their variety of roles during this particular period of growth and development is an opportunity not to be missed. We welcome your presence and participation in our classrooms, our activities, and these very special moments in the lives of your children. We look forward to sharing many years and unforgettable memories with everyone in the Eton Elementary community.
