Principal´s Welcome
Welcome Everyone to Eton Junior and Senior High School …
Upon entering Eton Junior and Senior High School, the unique qualities of our small and integrated community do make a difference. Students are open, friendly, and typical adolescents, until you begin to speak with them. Then, you are pleasantly surprised when you ask a question, look over a current project, encourage a discussion…and you feel that difference of slightly more mature personalities, an application of thinking skills and creativity in solving problems, and above all, reasoned and ethically-based decisions.
We owe that changing environment to multiple factors---our staff and students are an interesting spectrum of cultures, age-levels, experiences, and world-views. More important, is the underlying current of acceptance and enrichment in our community through the recognition of diversity, and an understanding and acceptance of its importance in our world today, and their world tomorrow. This microcosm also brings into reality the values we are constantly attempting to instill, that through understanding and appreciating differences, we can all learn not only with each other, but also from each other.
Our academic environment draws from several organizations dedicated to improving educational institutions through change in perspective and performance which can be measured visibly. Our senior high school has been a member of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for over eleven years, and our junior high school has been a part of the Middle Years Program for five years. These experiences provide a complexity and depth to our pre-university programs, and an opportunity and support for our students and teachers to the on-going development of the highest quality of international education available today.
Eton School is also proud to be a part of the Teaching for Understanding Program, developed by the Graduate Department of Education of Harvard University, Project Zero. All teachers continue their training in this prestigious and valuable international program through the Harvard on-line community, WIDE World.
The foundation of everything we do, is the Eton School philosophy, written and reviewed over many years, remains current and valuable in today’s world. Our students know that each one of them is important to us for who they are and what they can become; they experience the development of personal responsibility, guided through reasoning and conscience. They are involved in social service to realize through action what they can contribute as individuals to improve the lives of others. They understand that learning is a process that involves many stages and many exciting changes; and not only is “hands on,” but “thinking about.” The real difference is always our students’ thoughts and ideas as expressed by one of our graduating seniors, Ana Cristina Tovar, that makes the difference; “…never forget you cannot expect a change in the world, unless you become that change.”
