The Library: A Whole New World Waiting To Be Discovered
The Library is a very special place at School—a place to gain knowledge, read, and learn on your own about anything that interests you. Besides books, you may also find videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, maps, magazines, and computers with Internet access. But most importantly, through reading books, you are able to travel through time and space, visit remote eras and wonderful unknown places, and learn about different cultures, faraway civilizations, and amazing animals…
The Library is the perfect place to find entertainment, let your curiosity and imagination run free, let yourself be touched by poetry, or simply enjoy stories and legends. It also provides you with the resources you need to study and complete school assignments and homework.

Periodical Publications and book Reviews
This section lists all of the periodic publications that the School receives. For faster searching, you may view the table of contents of each of these publications; if you need any of them, you will find them at the Library.
These are books we recommend. Each month you will find a different title to satisfy different preferences and ages.
We would love to receive any suggestions you may have to share them with our School Community.
Please send them to our e-mail address: gilcerv@yahoo.com.

Activities
As a part of the school’s educational principles, the Library is responsible for helping shape creative readers, foster reflective attitudes, and spread knowledge and culture. During this school year, relevant activities aimed at the attainment of these goals include:
-
Student workshop on how to use the Library.
-
Guiding and teaching our students how to search and use the services provided by the Library, as well as various bibliographical sources and databases, especially EBSCO, in addition to books and electronic media.
-
Conducting storytelling sessions to encourage students to read.
-
Promoting research work to support the new program.
-
Fostering reading by providing students with the opportunity to purchase books by catalog at several times during the school year.
-
Presenting new publications to the entire community, by means of the Eton Book Fair—an event organized for all members of our community, and the Mini Book Fair, which takes place at the Library and is geared at Elementary students only. The Eton Book Fair also includes several activities to foster the habit of reading.
-
Strengthening communication among our users (students, teachers and parents) through our Library Link.

Suggestions on Using the Internet to Complete Homework Assignments
Nowadays, we are lucky to have the Internet—the largest library in the world—which can be accessed from the comfort of own home. It is a fun tool, that when used properly, can provide us with many benefits.
It is important, however, for parents to guide and supervise their children’s journeys through cyberspace.
There are websites that specialize in helping children with their homework, as well as search engines that can help us find the information we need.
Here are some suggestions to help your child get the most out of the Internet:
- Limit the time your child spends on the Internet. We recommend no more than one hour a day, to help avoid children from becoming withdrawn and isolated from the outside world.
- Choose an appropriate place for the computer. It is best to set up a computer in a quiet, well lit, adequately ventilated, and easily accessible room, so you may supervise what your child is seeing.
- Ask your child to plan his/her search. For example, the child can make a list of subjects he/she needs to research in order to complete a homework assignment.
- Your child must be responsible for completing his/her homework. The Internet is just an aid that will help your child do his/her work.
- Provide your child with other useful supplies. Make sure to keep CDs on hand, so that your child may save the information he/she has found.
- Play with your child on the Internet for a while after your child has finished his/her homework. The Internet has safe and age-appropriate games that help children test their motor and visual skills and also help them learn how to use a mouse and keyboard.
- As the parent, it is your duty to supervise your child while he/she is surfing the Internet. Unfortunately, the Internet also provides easy access to sites that are harmful for young minds; therefore, you must always keep a watchful eye on your child and teach him/her how to surf the Web safely.
- The Golden Rule: Remind your child that he/she must never give out personal information over the Internet.
