Teacher Profile

In a thinking and learning environment, a motivating and effective teacher is the most important element influencing student achievement. Teachers are important to develop a school culture of equity, excellence, and relevance.

To make this happen, teachers are:

  • Understanding and supportive of our vision, mission, and philosophy by adapting and implementing the pedagogic practices that they contain and we value.
  • Respectful and appreciative of individual and cultural differences, in words and actions.
  • Responsible for reading school communication and documents, including the Tell Me on Tuesdays weekly newsletter, website, emails, policies and procedures, handbooks, or booklets, in order to be aware of, and comply with, all responsibilities.
  • Responsible for establishing effective communication with the appropriate school authorities when a concern arises and for expressing the problem in a courteous and thoughtful way. Eton teachers avoid making hurtful and/or destructive comments inside or outside the school environment.
  • Responsible for treating students, parents, colleagues, principals, support staff, and any other member of our school community with courtesy and respect, always modeling self-discipline.
  • Aware and perceptive of the possible conflicts that might arise among students, using them as learning opportunities.
  • Respectful of instructional time.
  • Aware of their responsibilities to intervene in the protection of the emotional and physical safety of students.
  • Willing to share their expertise with their colleagues.
  • Participative in school events and activities.
  • Committed to working with parents, school authorities, and student support services as part of a social and emotional development team in favor of students’ wellbeing.
  • Supportive, alongside parents, in guiding students to become responsible for school material and facilities, as well as their personal belongings.
  • Knowledgeable that positive disposition toward thinking and learning attitudes support student abilities.
  • Teachers need to provide a classroom culture that fosters an emotionally safe environment by establishing connections between themselves and their students. This encompasses providing for their needs for affection, acceptance, self-esteem, self-confidence, experiencing success, and self-fulfillment.
  • Responsible for planning class activities, considering physical, intellectual, and emotional differences, as well as cultural diversity.
  • Responsible for providing meaningful learning experiences that motivate students to pursue their interests, construct knowledge, and develop life-skills, emphasizing research, experimentation, and the shaping of reflective and critical attitudes.
  • Lifelong learners who are willing to improve and perfect their practice on a continuous and permanent basis.

To be a member of the Eton community, teachers must comply with all of these responsibilities.
