Last August, we took part in NAE’s Parent Comms workshop. One of the things brought to our attention was the need to communicate not only bad news, but also news that fill parents’ hearts with joy and gratitude.
In response, we have been sending “magic moments” to the parents of our students, where we communicate acts of kindness, perseverance, honesty, and friendship regarding their children specifically. Parents’ reactions to these emails have been mind-blowing, as every one of them has responded with great excitement and pride towards the praise and recognition we’ve given their children. This initiative has strengthened the home-school connection and has built trust between teachers and families.
